Lavonte David

Despite all of the great moves that the Buccaneer front office has made, allowing Lavonte David even to reach free agency would be an indictment against their decision-making. David is the Buccaneers’ heart and soul, and Tampa Bay should make sure that he remains a Buccaneer for life for obvious reasons.

The Buccaneer captain has been one of the best players in the NFL in 2020. David has shown incredible versatility against the run and the pass, and his leadership is invaluable for a team that is mostly comprised of young players that have limited NFL experience.

At just 30 years old, the Bucs have very few reasons not to sign David to a longer contract. It’s clear that both parties want to remain together. Tampa Bay wouldn’t be the same without David at the helm.

The best bet for the Bucs now would be to re-sign David before his price jumps up again. As one of the top players in the NFL that is quickly on pace to earn some All-Pro votes, Lavonte David’s price is only moving up from here.

Tampa Bay needs to realize that the price is going up one way or another, and making Lavonte David one of the highest-paid linebackers in the NFL is both the smart decision and the right thing to do based on his current level of play and the overall body of work.
