Carlton Davis

Carlton Davis isn’t just playing like the Buccaneers’ best corner; he is playing like one of the best corners in football. Davis was expected to have a season that would begin the conversations surrounding the franchise corner title, but Davis has done far more than that.

Davis has been a monster to start the season in Todd Bowles‘ defense, and a second-half reminiscent of the first should end with Davis in the conversation for Defensive Player of the Year.

Davis currently leads the league in passes defended with 13 and is tied for first in the interceptions category with four. On pace to finish with 26 passes defended and eight interceptions, Davis is quickly putting together one of the best seasons for a Buccaneer corner in a long time, and that stat line blows Stephon Gilmore‘s (2019 DPOY) stats out of the water.

The Buccaneers finally have a shutdown corner, which has played a significant role in minimizing the effect of the pass in an NFL that is quickly shifting away from the run.

If Davis keeps playing at this level, he should quickly become one of the NFL’s top-paid corners sooner than later, and his selection by the Bucs in the 2018 NFL draft will look like one of the best for the team in a long time.
