Even with Ronald Jones having a career season as the lead back for the Bucs, the front office may still decide to make a change during the draft. If Jones does finish out the season well and makes a case to keep his job, Tampa Bay could also decide to use a pick to supplement Jones in his weaknesses.

Right now, Ronald Jones struggles the most on third down when he is on the field. RoJo showed improvements last season in efficiency and explosive ability after the catch, but all that has dissipated this year.

Tom Brady needs a back that he can rely on to catch and block, and Jones may not be that player. If Tampa Bay can’t keep someone like Leonard Fournette to play that role, they could look to the draft for a player like Zamir White.

White has shown a very limited scope of what his abilities are, but he already looks like a better blocker than Jones on third down. He hasn’t received many reception opportunities in the Georgia offense, but any uptick in production catching the ball could elevate the sophomore back into clear draft consideration.

College running backs aren’t often the focus of the passing game, so stat watching for White does little good in evaluating his fit with the Buccaneers. Still, any bit of above-average play mixed with mid-round draft status could make this the perfect selection for Tampa Bay.
