Player #3 for Buccaneers to extend: Carlton Davis

Every NFL team has to address four critical positions above all others; quarterback, offensive tackle, cornerback, and pass-rusher. If these four positions have been managed, everything else has a way of working itself out.

Tampa Bay has a great tackle already, some hope at pass-rusher, and Tom Brady for one more season, so the only other position for them to address long-term is corner. The best move for the Bucs to make before this season ends is to sign Carlton Davis to a long-term extension.

While Davis is still playing on his rookie contract, he has emerged as one of the best corners in the NFL during a very short period. Davis has shut down some of the most talented receivers in the league over the past two seasons, and Tampa Bay will want to find a way to keep him for as long as possible.

After the Byron Jones debacle in Dallas, the Buccaneers will want to learn from the mistakes of one of the most dysfunctional franchises in the league. Tampa Bay needs to sign Davis before he becomes too expensive for the market.

Given his current production on the year, Davis is on pace to become one of the highest-paid corners in the NFL in a short time, so the Buccaneers could likely save themselves some money if they shell out a contract early.
