The Buccaneer secondary ruins Jared Goff‘s day

The Buccaneer secondary has quietly struggled with a ton of the same problems as last season during the recent stretch of games. Mediocre quarterbacks have completed a high percentage and volume of passes against the Buccaneer defense, and Tampa Bay needs to right the ship soon.

The beginning of the season saw a dramatic improvement in the secondary that was absent last season, but Todd Bowles has questionably moved away from his press man philosophy for a more conservative approach during the recent weeks.

After a horrific loss against the Saints that was also in primetime, the Buccaneer secondary improved during the victory against the Panthers last week, but there is still plenty of room to grow. Jared Goff is not a top-tier quarterback, and this is the exact type of player that the Bucs need to shut down.

Goff and McVay are challenging to keep quiet, but the Buccaneers need to prove that they are up to the task before the playoffs begin. The talent only gets better as the Bucs get closer to the playoffs, and this is a defining moment for the team.

If the Buccaneer secondary performs well, especially Carlton Davis, the Rams should have no shot of winning this game. Tampa Bay may have the advantage for now, but the secondary needs to step up from the first play and put this team away from the first snap.
