The Tampa Bay Buccaneers need to start looking towards the future at the running back position, specifically for players that can catch the ball.

While Ronald Jones was able to quell any desires by the fanbase to draft a running back to take over the lead duties so far this season, the Buccaneers still have a dire need for a consistent receiving option out of their backfield to pair with Tom Brady.

The Buccaneer running backs have been terrible pass-catchers so far this season, and Tampa Bay should start to look towards the 2021 NFL Draft for some options to serve in that supportive role for Tom Brady.

This upcoming draft class should have numerous backs with excellent hands that would fit with the Buccaneers perfectly, and these should be the top three targets for now.

Player #1: Travis Etienne, Clemson

It is still a bit too early to start making mock drafts, as there is still more film needed to make accurate determinations on most players. Still, Travis Etienne is clearly the best back in the draft, and the Buccaneers are already emerging as a favorite to land the record-setting back.

While numerous third-down backs wait until they reach the NFL to show off their prowess catching the ball, the easiest way to determine that a player can perform well in this role is with their college tape.

Etienne has already shown off this skill in college, posting similar stat lines to the likes of Christian McCaffrey, which is a great comparison to draw in the modern NFL.

The Bucs would have to part ways with a high draft pick to make this happen, which is usually a mistake, but Etienne would solve one of the greatest weakness for the Bucs overnight, and Tom Brady would end up in the best place to succeed in year two in Tampa.
