Can the offense be saved?

In short, yes, the offense can be saved, but it remains to be seen if this can be done with Byron Leftwich calling the plays. Leftwich and Bruce Arians’ staff as a whole have failed to adapt to the modern NFL consistently, and the leadership needs to take this into account before the start of next season.

It is extremely unlikely that the Buccaneers would part ways with Bruce Arians this offseason, but there should be no guarantees about Leftwich.

If anything, the Buccaneer offense would be better with Bruce Arians as the chief play-caller. Arians has fallen off of his “No risk it no biscuit” mentality, but his plays are inherently supported more by analytics than what Leftwich calls now.

In addition to play-calling, Tom Brady has also struggled in recent weeks. Leftwich could call the right plays, yet Brady still misses a wide-open receiver from time to time. Leftwich shouldn’t suffer from mistakes like that.

The Buccaneers are still in a good position going forward, but Byron Leftwich has to be better if the Bucs hope to live up to their potential.
