Carlton Davis

Carlton Davis was likely a handful of decisions away from making his first Pro Bowl. The Kansas City game in primetime was likely enough to keep Davis out, but that was little fault of his own.

Todd Bowles left Davis alone against the fastest receiver in the NFL, which led to very predictable results. Davis’ biggest shortcoming is speed, and keeping limited safety help over the top to protect against the big players was one of the worst coaching decisions of the season.

Tyreek Hill had a massive game, called Davis out on social media, and the opportunity began to evaporate. The victor dictates history, and Hill won the day, but it shouldn’t have been enough to keep Davis out.

Davis has shut down top receivers this season and has shown up on the stat sheet. Through the first 14 games, Davis is first in the league in passes defended and is tied for third amongst cornerbacks in interceptions.

The Buccaneers’ starting corner has been great for the vast majority of the season, and not seeing him make the Pro Bowl feels like a slap in the face. Davis has a contract negotiation coming up, and this will undoubtedly have implications on that.
