Tristan Wirfs finishes the season as the best offensive rookie in the NFL

Is this even a bold take? It may not be to Bucs fan anymore. Tristan Wirfs has emerged as one of the best draft picks for the Buccaneers in recent years. Not only has Wirfs been outstanding in his first season, he immediacy also shows the abilities of a franchise tackle in the NFL.

After going up against some of the best pass rushers in the NFL on a weekly basis, Wirfs hasn’t surrendered a sack in 10 games. Tomorrow could make it 11 if he posts a clean sheet.

Eleven games in a row without a sack for a rookie against this level of competition is like a rookie quarterback dotting up every defense he faces. Unfortunately for Wirfs and his chances at winning Offensive Rookie of the Year, that is exactly what Justin Herbert has done this season.

Rookie quarterbacks and running backs are always the favorites to win this honor, but Wirfs should hold his head high, knowing that the product that he put on the field was just as impressive as what Herbert is doing, if not more so.

Atlanta’s pass rush gave the Buccaneers more difficulties a few weeks ago than most would expect, but Wirfs has already gone through the matchup once without a mistake, so it stands to reason that he can achieve the same result in the rematch.
