Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Top 5 running backs in Buccaneers’ history
Honorable Mention: Doug Martin
The Buccaneers drafted Doug Martin with 31st overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, and from day one, he made an impact. Martin played his college ball at Boise State, wherein four years, he amassed over 3,400 yards and rushed for 43 touchdowns.
Martin was a safe pick for the Bucs who really only had one other reliable back – LeGarrette Blount. Martin came into Tampa red hot and was looking to take over as the starter, and that is exactly what he did.
In his rookie season, the man known as “muscle hamster” rushed for 1,454 yards on 319 rushing attempts and had eleven rushing touchdowns. He also caught 49 balls for 472 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown, and as far as the icing on the cake is concerned, he made the Pro Bowl that season.
Injuries plagued Martin and that is why he was placed in the honorable mention spot. Martin was really good when he was healthy, but he missed games in four of his six seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Nonetheless, Martin was a really good back for the Bucs, rushing for over 4,600 yards in his six seasons with the team. There were a lot of times where Doug Martin was the only thing going for the Bucs.
Martin got the Honorable Mention spot because it was just very difficult to put him above these other five backs. Doug Martin had the potential to make this list, and while he may be placed on other top 5 lists, it wasn’t in the cards for him in this list.
