Another receiver for the Buccaneers

Ihmir Smith-Marsette WR, Iowa

Would it be a Buccaneer draft without a receiver going to a receiver-rich team? Tampa Bay always needs additional weapons on the offensive side of the ball, and the sixth round of the draft is the perfect time to take a chance on a talented receiver.

Ihmir Smith-Marsette has some character concerns from his playing days in Iowa, but his talent on the field is undeniable. Even if the Buccaneers can keep their wide receiver corps intact, Smith-Marsette would just be another option for Tom Brady.

The one skillset that the Bucs have lacked at wide receiver over the years is speed. Mike Evans and Chris Godwin aren’t slow by any stretch, but Scotty Miller has shown just how much the Bucs missed having a speedy receiver on the roster. Miller is great and should see a greater role in 2021, but adding another receiver with this skillset wouldn’t hurt.

The Buccaneers could easily use their sixth-round pick on another long-shot receiver with almost no negative drawbacks. If Smith-Marsette works out, Tom Brady gets another receiver with incredible speed to use in the offense. If he doesn’t work out or character concerns become a real problem, the Bucs would have no issue moving on from such a late-round pick.

Tom Brady would be a stark contrast from what Smith-Marsette played with in college, and the improved quarterback accuracy would help take the rookie receiver’s game to the next level.
