With rumors swelling of the cap space only going 1-2 million dollars above the 180 million cap floor, the Buccaneers may have to make some hard decisions.

It is no secret that the cap space is going to be difficult to maneuver around, however, now it may be even more difficult than expected. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are coming off of a Super Bowl victory which means that all of the eyes around the NFL are on them, including their young talent.

While we don’t yet know what the cap space will officially be, there are rumors that it may only be 1-2 million dollars more than the $180 million dollar cap floor. The cap floor is simply the minimum amount of money that the cap will be. In other words, the cap space will not go below $180 million for the 2021 season.

It is no secret that Tom Brady gets the majority of the credit for turning this franchise around in a matter of a few months, but Todd Bowles and the defense proved all year long that they had a little something to do with the team’s success as well.

One man on this defense that is going to demand a lot of money is Shaquil Barrett. In 2019 Barrett proved himself to be one of the top edge rushers in the league, and he followed up his career year with a strong 2020 season. If there was one player that deserved to be playoff MVP for the Buccaneers, it would be Barrett.

Barrett has never had a long-term contract and in his own words, he is ready to “break the bank”. No one can fault him for this because he has earned every penny, however, just because he has earned it doesn’t mean the Bucs can afford him.

Here are three edge rushers that could replace Barrett if he and the Buccaneers can’t come to a deal.
