The Buccaneers still need depth on the offensive line

Demar Dotson

While Demar Dotson’s final few seasons left a bit of a sour taste in most people’s mouths, his time with the Buccaneers is comparable to many players that were stuck in a horrible situation; above-average play but buried by mediocrity.

Dotson is at the later part of his career and could decide to hang the cleats up, but he could also eye a return to Tampa Bay to play a depth role similar to Joe Haeg. Haeg will likely get offers to play elsewhere, and Dotson could be a much cheaper insurance policy.

As it stands, the Buccaneer offensive line is far and away one of the best in the NFL. From the rookies to the veterans, this offensive line is exactly what the Bucs need to be successful.

Even Donovan Smith, who has caught plenty of flak from the fanbase in the past, played at an extremely high level at the end of the season, and he should emerge as one of the better tackles in the NFL in 2021.

The only thing that could derail the line at this point is an injury to Smith or Tristan Wirfs. Losing either player could be disastrous at this point, and Dotson would be the perfect player to step in for a game or two as needed to stem the bleeding.

As a player that spent plenty of above-average seasons with a team that wasn’t even close to winning, Dotson more than deserves a shot at playoff football.
