A veteran running back that wouldn’t cut it for the Buccaneers

Adrian Peterson

The Adrian Peterson musings are based on far more logic than the OBJ rumors. The future Hall of Fame running back has been vocal in his desires to play with Brady, and the Bucs could have some money to spend at the position.

The Buccaneers have experienced a revolving door at the running back over the past few seasons. Players like Peyton Barber and Dare Ogunbowale, two major contributors in 2019, departed before last season. LeSean McCoy, Leonard Fournette, and Ke’Shawn Vaughn were brought in a short while later, but more departures are coming in the next few months.

McCoy should be gone for sure, and Fournette shouldn’t be too far behind if he expects a contract over a few million dollars. Peterson could fill a small void as another future Hall of Famer similar to McCoy last year, but the Bucs could make better decisions than Peterson.

The Buccaneers need depth, but the depth needs to possess the ability to excel in the scheme or the opportunity to take a lead role down the road. Vaughn is the only back on the roster right now on track to be on the team in 2022, so some new blood is needed.

Even if the Bucs add James White, who is an excellent fit for the scheme with Brady at the helm, they will also want to add a rookie to serve alongside Vaughn down the road.

Peterson could be another fun addition for a year, but the opportunities with different players are better for the present and the future.
