The Buccaneers drafting Warren Sapp turns out to be a seminal moment in the modern NFL.

For this trip down the rabbit hole that is the NFL multiverse, we’re going to explore how the modern NFL would have been a much different place had one draft day blunder gone a different direction. Shockingly, this was a draft day blunder that actually worked out in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ favor, as opposed to them being on the wrong end of it. Sometimes it’s good being on the right end of the NFL Draft. It may seem like a radical concept to younger fans, but the Bucs weren’t always nailing the draft, to put it mildly.

Had it not been for a controversial report that surfaced the night before the draft regarding the past of Warren Sapp’s past, one of the greatest and most popular Buccaneers of all time would never have come to Tampa. Sapp more likely than not would have ended up in New York, which is where this scenario really snowballs.

This “what if” scenario obviously affects the Buccaneers, but also the NFL as a whole, especially the fate of numerous franchises across the league. So now let’s dive in.
