Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 2021 NFL Draft guidebook
By Rob Leeds
The Buccaneers need to prioritize a pass-catching RB in the 2021 NFL Draft
Sticking with this somewhat frustrating position, the Buccaneers do still need a running back. Just because they don’t need one in the first round doesn’t mean they don’t need one at all.
Ronald Jones, Leonard Fournette, and Ke’Shawn Vaughn are a good foundation, but the Bucs are still short a talented pass-catching back for Tom Brady to target 5-8 times a game. James White came off the board early in free agency, so the draft is the next best place to target.
Fortunately, this class has plenty of pass-catchers in the mid to late rounds. This sets the Bucs up for a perfect combination of fit and price.
The two names to follow for now are Demetric Felton and Kenneth Gainwell. These two are a part of the new era at running back and can line up at wide receiver and RB at will, and this is the exact type of player Tampa Bay needs.
If either of these options is available at almost any point after the first round, the Buccaneers need to pull the trigger. This would lock Tampa in with a consistent pass-catcher for at least the next four years, and if they need a runner for the early downs, they can better address this in a later draft class.
Even if the Bucs can find a decent free agent in the next few weeks to keep Tom Brady’s offense successfully staffed, a draft pick at running back in the right round is a perfect way to keep this team on pace to repeat in the Super Bowl.
