Tom Brady will love Giovani Bernard on the Buccaneers.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have finally made their first outside free agent signing of the offseason. After a month of targeting their own free agents, Giovani Bernard marks the first new addition to the team, according to Tom Pelissero on Twitter.

Bernard, who has flown under the radar as an underrated part of a bad Bengals team, gives the Buccaneers needed depth in their running back room.

The previous trio that is running it back after last season is in a great position to carry the load on the ground, but the Bucs have a major gap at third-down back. LeSean McCoy and Fournette tried to carry this load last year, but Brady would be the first to say that they were no James White.

Bernard is far from the flashiest option from a name standpoint, but his career as a pass-catcher proves his fit with this roster. Three hundred forty-two receptions over eight years tells you everything you need to know about Bernard’s ability to fit in with this team.

This was an excellent move for the Buccaneer offense, Bernard, and for Brady. A rare win-win-win.

Brady finally gets the third-down back that he needed so much last season. Gone should be the days of dropped passes and wasted downs.

As for Bernard, Brady is immediately the best quarterback that he has played for during his career. Joe Burrow and Andy Dalton, even at their best, don’t come close to Brady.

Together, this offense is putting the Buccaneers in a prime position to repeat in the Super Bowl. Bernard is an extremely underrated option to rely on that also brings a veteran presence to one of the best offenses in the NFL last season.

Finally, this move also saves the Bucs from themselves. With Bernard on the roster, Tampa can’t afford to take a running back early in the draft, which will force them to use their capital on a much better area.

With the signing official, expect for Bernard to have one of the best seasons of his career, and the Buccaneer offense is in position to be even scarier in 2021.
