Baron Browning – LB, Ohio State

With the 64th overall pick, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Baron Browning, a linebacker from THE Ohio State University.

This would be another example of the Bucs taking the best player available on their board. It may not be a need perse, but what really is at this point? A good athlete, perhaps a better athlete than a linebacker, Browning is a very versatile player, and perhaps a bit of a project. That is perfectly fine considering the position the Buccaneers are in. There is really no better position in the NFL for a “project” to get dropped into.

He’s played in the middle, but with pass coverage skills leaving a bit to be desired, switched to the outside where he excelled as a pass rusher. Adding him to the linebacker room would be the perfect place for him to be molded and hone his skills. He would also be a great rotational pass-rush option, as he is projected to ideally be a 3-4 linebacker in the NFL. You can never have too many pass rushers.

Jason Pierre-Paul won’t play forever, and if/when Browning can take the torch, he and Shaq Barrett can form a young pass rush duo that can terrorize quarterbacks for years to come.
