Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Final seven round mock draft
Jamie Newman – QB, Wake Forest
With the 217th overall pick, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Jamie Newman, a quarterback from Wake Forest.
You had to know we’d get here eventually. Many mocks have the Buccaneers picking a quarterback with hopes of being Brady’s heir apparent in the earlier rounds (some even round one) but there’s really no need for that. Blaine Gabbert is a competent backup and third singer (and bodyguard extraordinaire) Ryan Griffin was just re-signed. Brady may be an ageless wonder, but he isn’t immortal, that we know of. That being the case, adding another quarterback late in the draft wouldn’t be an awful idea.
We’re not saying Newman is Patrick Mahomes. That would be certified lunacy. However, similar to Mahomes, Newman is a strong-framed quarterback with an absolute bazooka attached to his shoulder, and raw athleticism to boot.
Should Newman be so fortunate to learn under Brady, we hear he’s pretty good, it would give Newman the best chance to reach his ceiling, and with his basic physical talent, the sky could be the limit. Like many on this list, Newman is certainly a project, but as it’s been established, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that when it comes to the Bucs.
