Joe Tryon has the size, power and explosiveness to continue the legacy of a defensive juggernaut for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for years to come.

At 6’4” and 251 ‘el bees,’ Joe Tryon was the focus of the 32nd pick in the 2021 NFL Draft of Jason Licht, Bruce Arians, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from the get go.

Tryon brings not only size but daunting power, and some raw talent that will surely be honed under the tutelage of Jason Pierre-Paul and Shaquil Barrett, two mentors any young prospect would kill to have chisel their talents under. Personally, to hear Roger Goodell utter the name Joe Tryon as the pick for the Bucs was music to my ears to say the least.

With so many options at their fingertips, and many other quality players available, like DT Christian Barmore, fellow Husky Levi Ozukaware, or Joseph Ossai, among many others, Arians and Licht couldn’t make the pick fast enough, leaving plenty of time left on the clock. No need to waste time, they got their guy! I couldn’t be happier to see this kid develop into the next Shaq or JPP!

The Tryon pick gives the Bucs more depth, but also allows some time for development, something pretty much all the draft picks will be doing this year in the Edge/OLB position since, unfortunately, Anthony Nelson has yet to grow into. Although, that’s not too much fault of his own. After all, you have to pretty much almost physically yank JPP and Shaq off the field to give them a little rest during the game, so Nelson’s playing time has been limited, in all fairness.

Another benefit of Tryon is he’s young. He’s just a junior coming out of Washington, so by the time he’s starting, he’ll still be ahead of the age curve by a year or two, thus developing into the Bucs’ future starting Edge defender for years to come!
