The Buccaneers need a special teams star

Grant Stuard, LB

Special teams prowess deserves a place of greater respect in the NFL, and Grant Stuard could be the guy to help this unit take steps forward in 2021.

You almost have to feel bad for the linebackers that the Buccaneers selected in the recent draft class. Stuard and K.J. Britt are sitting behind the best linebacker duo in the NFL right now, and Tampa will look to keep both of their starters on the roster for as long as possible.

While Britt is the better linebacker prospect and could get a shot to earn more reps down the road, Stuard will probably end up predominantly as a special teamer for his time in Tampa. The Bucs need a player like Stuard to step in a take over in the Ryan Smith role, which is still extremely important on any team competing for a Super Bowl.

Stuard has the athleticism and the heart to make a name for himself on special teams, but his skills on the defensive side of the ball aren’t enough to project as a starter any time soon. In all fairness to one of the Buccaneer fan-favorite rookies, anyone in that position would have a long path to starting; the Bucs are just lucky to have Devin White and Lavonte David.
