The Buccaneers need to keep the repeat train going with sports trophies in Tampa.
The Tampa Bay Lightning just won the best trophy in sports. The Lightning may not throw this one from boat to boat as they celebrate their impressive victory, but a repeat in and of itself is something to appreciate.
When fully healthy, the Lightning are the best team in the NFL and should stay favorites to go for a three-peat next season, and the Buccaneers need to follow suit, albeit with baby steps first.
Back-to-back Super Bowls aren’t impossible in the NFL, but they are extremely difficult to obtain. The Patriots were the last team to accomplish this feat, and fortunately for the Bucs, they have the secret ingredient to make this happen.
Tom Brady is the only active starting quarterback to win back-to-back titles, and he has already accomplished the first half of this task in Tampa. The team has only gotten better after their recent win.
With an impossible free agency period, a draft class that focused on the biggest roster weaknesses, and more time to build chemistry, the NFL has given Brady and the Buccaneers the best chance to hoist repeat Lombardi Trophies since that Patriots team.
Tampa Bay still has to work out some aspects of their offensive and defensive game plan to use their talent to the best of their abilities, but all of the pieces are there to be as dominant or more than the Lightning.
The area that the Bucs would be able to set themselves apart in is the regular season of their potential repeat year. The Lightning struggled a bit during the regular season without Nikita Kucherov, finishing third in the division, but they were able to win when it mattered most.
The Buccaneers were the same, struggling more during the regular season before their Super Bowl victory, but they have the chance to dominate during the regular season and postseason this year when they run it back.
Nothing is a given in Tampa Bay sports, but the Lightning, Bucs, and Rays are starting to make a name for the city as one of the best for sports in the country.
