Rob Gronkowski may be the true hero for the Buccaneers.

Without the Tom Brady signing, this Buccaneers team would still be good, but Super Bowl aspirations would still be a little high. The entire campaign last season was a team effort, but it is entirely fair to say that Brady was the x-factor that turned everything around.

Without Brady, the Bucs would be at a very different point this offseason, but without Rob Gronkowski, the Buccaneers may not have ever landed Brady in the first place.

The Match was already entertaining in its own right with Brady and company letting loose in front of a national audience, but adding in Gronk was overkill. The future Hall of Fame and current Buccaneer tight end has a way of keeping people laughing everywhere he goes, so it makes sense that he was brought in to put his chemistry with Brady on display.

Rob Gronkowski got real with the decision to join the Buccaneers

Gronk even added an interesting tidbit into the mix by explaining that it was his decision for the best pass-catcher-quarterback duo in league history to go to the Buccaneers. While the retired tight end had not yet made his decision to return to the league when Brady signed with Tampa, there may be some truth to the joking statement by Gronkowski.

During retirement, Gronk had plenty of time to travel around the U.S. and experience areas that weren’t cold Massachusetts. Time around the water and seeing football games that were played in the sun rather than the snow could’ve shown Gronk a new vision for a home team advantage.

After talking with his longtime friend in Brady, finding a place that fit the bill as a fun town and one that was in need of their talents was probably very easy.

Regardless of Gronkowski’s likely embellishments, if you think Brady didn’t talk to Gronk before his decision, you are probably dead wrong. If Gronk said, “I’m not playing there,” Brady would have taken that into account.

While Tom Brady was the one who had to take the initial leap of faith to sign with the Bucs before his friend followed suit, there are still reasons to believe that Gronk was more involved with the decision-making process than the duo initially let on, which means that he too deserves some credit in the recent string of successes.

Thank you, Gronk.
