Buccaneers fans have known for quite some time how great safety Jordan Whitehead is, and the rest of the NFL is starting to take notice too.

Despite dealing with injuries from day one, the Buccaneers still have one of the best teams in the NFL. The offense is obviously extremely talented, but the defense has been the main determinant of this roster for most of the season.

This group its extremely talented, but constant injuries have made it difficult to maintain much consistency. Various players have been thrust into new roles and are getting more attention from the media, and no player deserves the attention more than Jordan Whitehead.

The media has a way of focusing on some of the bigger names while neglecting the young players. Every Bucs fan knows how good players like Whitehead are, but the way some of the other players are covered wouldn’t indicate that he is playing like one of the best safeties in the NFL today.

During the trouncing of the Panthers on Sunday, Whitehead was the best player on the field by a mile, and a whole lot more people started to take notice of one of the most versatile players the Bucs have on a dominant roster.

After the game, stats came out showing Whitehead is in some extremely talented company as one of four players since 2010 with 20 tackles for loss and five interceptions in their first four seasons, and Tyrann Mathieu (another member of the list) took the time to shout his counterpart out.

Mathieu was exactly right in his post, and it is nice to see a player that stays one of the most talked-about defensive players in the league call attention to a young, deserving Buccaneer.

Stats aren’t everything, but Whitehead has done everything required to prove that he is one of the best at his position in the NFL, and the Buccaneers would be making a huge mistake if they do not offer him an extension at the end of the season.
