The Buccaneers need honest evaluation in the draft

After a full season of play, the 2021 draft class for the Buccaneers was disappointing. The group never really popped, and Jason Licht and company probably have a few picks from that group that they would like to get back.

It feels nice to prepare for the future when the team feels rock-solid, but this season showed that this group was anything but that.

Drafting a depth quarterback and special teamers seemed like the only thing the group could do after dominating the free agent market, but the Bucs know different know.

Drafting special teamers is a waste, especially when it didn’t actually move the needle on special teams anyway. There are going to be some massive needs in the draft this season, and the Bucs always need to address key positions like corner every year when possible.

The Bucs fortunately don’t have any massive needs going forward, but why not make strengths stronger when possible? Key picks should go to players that can step up immediately in the event of injuries, and hopefully the Bucs have learned their lesson after one of the worst injury seasons in franchise history.

Maybe draft a corner with that second-round pick this time.
