The Buccaneers will be more than happy not having to face Sean Payton twice a year.

The Saints reign of terror at the top of the NFC South is over. Drew Brees is gone, Sean Payton has just followed him, and the Buccaneers can hopefully finally get past the Saints in 2022 without this duo at the helm.

For what it’s worth, you have to hand it to Payton for what he did during his time with the Saints. Drew Brees was never the most talented quarterback, nor where his backups in Taysom Hill, Jameis Winston, or any of the other depth players, yet Payton made the team work.

This is the true selling point of a great coach. Payton was the glue that held the Saints together, and now, he is gone.

The situation in New Orleans has officially reached a disaster level. With Payton in charge, you could likely overcome terrible cap space and a talentless quarterback, but all of that has changed.

The Saints have no money, huge changes coming to make the roster work in 2022, no set quarterback, and a Kevin James film coming out that details the most shameful period in franchise history.

The situation in New Orleans is downright terrible, and it makes the potential loss of Tom Brady seem like a joke by comparison.

The Bucs were already the favorites to win the division again in 2022, but this only adds to those chances. The Falcons and Panthers both have worse situations than Tampa, and the Saints are legitimate contenders to be the worst in the division at this point, and that is saying something.

As for Bucs fans, they could likely care less. There is no love lost between the two teams, and Payton leaving amid the embarrassment of trying to make Taysom Hill work for so long is something that rivals will hold over the Saints for a long time to come.

The days of the Saints sweeping the Buccaneers are likely at an end, just like the days of New Orleans’ relevance in the race for the title of the NFC South.
