Recent news proves Buccaneers need to give up on another QB

Kyler Murray served as a pipe-dream for the Buccaneers as an answer to their quarterback troubles. Don’t count on that to actually happen.

If there was ever a chance that Kyler Murray would be the savior for the Buccaneers on the quarterback front, that dream is largely dead.

What was already a long shot has only become more impossible for the Bucs to pull off after a recent statement from Murray’s agent.

Erik Burkhardt made Murray’s stance very clear in a lengthy statement on Twitter; Kyler wants a payday. The statement also touched on things like Murray’s desire to stay in Arizona and compete for a Super Bowl, but everything outside of a new contract is largely irrelevant from a Buccaneers standpoint.

This means that for the Bucs to acquire Murray they would have to give up a wealth of draft capital and completely neglect all of their departing free agents to make Kyler Murray one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the game.

That’s not happening.

Not only is this a bad decision, it is a decision that the Bucs likely won’t even consider. Paying young quarterbacks with consistent injury concerns and some irregularities in their game is a slippery slope, and the Buccaneers can’t afford to get involved in such risks on a capital front with some shake-ups coming this offseason.

The idea of adding Murray is still far preferable to the idea of letting someone like Blaine Gabbert take over as the new face of the franchise, but Bucs fans need to move their attention to someone new.

As has been the trend with each bit of information that comes out about the high-profile quarterback targets for Tampa, Russell Wilson still seems like the best option given what fans want and what the teams can actually make happen, but don’t count on that one either.
