With the emergence of the of the news that both Aaron Rogers and Russell Wilson have signed with other teams, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have all but solidified that next season will be a down year compared to the last two seasons.

Although just rumors this offseason, there was still the glimmer of hope in Bucs fans that a big-name quarterback such as Rodgers or Wilson would find their way to Tampa’s starting lineup, but that seems like it is completely out of the question now.

To be fair, absolutely no one expected Tom Brady to sign with the Bucs before he did, so crazier things have indeed happened.

However, this time the Bucs did not come out so lucky, as both stars signed elsewhere for next season, and Deshaun Watson is still an unlikely option for a variety of reasons.

The Bucs are now stuck between a rock and a hard place.

They can either try and save face by spending too much money to acquire a mediocre quarterback like Jimmy Garoppolo, try to make it by with Blaine Gabbert, or completely rebuild by putting the ball in the hands of a young Kyle Trask in his second year in the league.

Given the options, the Bucs would be foolish not to simply cut their losses and start rebuilding with Trask at the helm.

There is simply no chance the Bucs are able to win a Super Bowl with Garoppolo as their starting QB, so there is no purpose spending the money on him that could otherwise be used to sign talented role players.

It would be far more beneficial for the Bucs to let Trask play and see if he can handle it now rather than later.

Everyone already knows what Gabbert can and cannot do on the field. This isn’t the case for Trask though. Maybe he’s good, maybe he’s terrible, but either way, the Bucs need to give him a chance to show it. After all, the team has nothing else to lose in 2022.
