There were a lot of quarterback options for the Buccaneers to stay away from, but Carson Wentz was probably at the top of the list.

Isn’t it nice when other teams take problems out of your hands? Not that it was likely that the Buccaneers would go after Carson Wentz in a trade, but Washington trading for the fading quarterback rules that mistake out for Tampa.

Wentz is going to Washington for the price of two third round picks, one of which could turn into a second. This deal is similar to the one that sent Wentz to the Colts, albeit for a slightly smaller overall amount.

How do you think Bucs fans would’ve reacted to giving up two Day 2 picks to pay Carson Wentz more than Tom Brady initially signed for?

The response would’ve been poor, even with the need for an established quarterback right now, and Wentz shows this at every turn.

The Buccaneers don’t need Wentz’s inconsistency

Carson Wentz is not a bad quarterback. However, he is far from a consistent quarterback. The highs are extremely high, but the lows are too much for contenders to overcome.

This video seems to highlight the two sides of Wentz perfectly:

The first throw was excellent. Had a more marketable player made that throw and had it ended in a win, people wouldn’t have stopped talking about it for a month.

However, the second throw was downright terrible, and the Colts made the obvious decision that throws like that becoming more common is impossible to build around when they come from a guy that has been in the league as long as Wentz.

While Wentz is still better than what the Bucs have on their roster right now, his hefty price tag and low ceiling would’ve made this a terrible decision in the long run. Sure, Wentz probably has the talent to win the NFC South with the Bucs, but so do a lot of quarterbacks.

At least the Buccaneers get to hold onto cap space and draft picks. We’ll see how it works out for Washington.
