Buccaneers should look into bringing former player back

Carl Nassib is back on the market, and the Buccaneers could use another veteran to beef up their pass rush. Could a reunion be in the works?

The Buccaneers are killing it in the free agent market. None of the signings have been completely out of left field, but they have all addressed key needs to keep this train rolling ahead.

One additional move the Bucs should consider is going after veteran pass-rusher Carl Nassib.

Nassib is back on the market after two mediocre seasons with the Raiders and could be in search of a return to the franchise that made him his money in the first place.

Much like Breshad Perriman, Nassib played his best football while in Tampa, and Nassib should take notes from his former teammate and come back to where he found the most success.

Nassib was never a world-beater, and that isn’t what the Buccaneers need right now. Shaquil Barrett, Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, and Anthony Nelson are a great core that is moving in the right direction. All the Bucs need is a cheaper depth option that can play on a more team-friendly deal than Jason Pierre-Paul.

None of us really want to think about moving on from JPP, but we have likely seen his peak in Tampa. The Bucs should really start to use JTS in that starting role rather than Pierre-Paul, and asking the veteran to move into a depth role is hard to do at times.

Going after Nassib saves the Bucs money and it would give JPP the chance to purse another contract that would work more in his own favor.

Again, the Buccaneers wouldn’t change too much on their defense by going after Nassib, but it would help by adding a consistent option that already has familiarity in the defense without having to spend much.
