The Buccaneers never want to turn down offensive help.

After the announcement that Tom Brady would be returning for the final year of his contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team’s front office immediately scrambled, rightly so, to surround him with as many weapons as possible to try and make another run at a Super Bowl.

The Bucs know what truly hurt them last year, maybe even more than the issues in their defensive secondary, was the quantity of injuries the team suffered throughout the season, most crucially in the playoffs.

It would appear the Buccaneers are looking to remedy that situation this year by acquiring as much depth as possible for the offense to ensure that production won’t be hindered by any potential injuries this coming season.

It was reported several days ago that the Bucs have re-signed running back Giovani Bernard to a one-year deal worth $1.12 million. This will add even more depth to Tampa’s backfield as well as a running back with great hands; an attribute which Brady has always done well with in his career.

While Bernard can’t expect to see much action throughout the season, he will surely get in from time to time as a receiving option which will only give Brady another competent option.

This is an unquestionably smart move by the Bucs. Football is a dangerous game and injuries are bound to occur. The Bucs’ historic Super Bowl run in 2020 was a fluke in this regard.

The team managed to endure both COVID-19 and an entire season without any serious injuries to key players. This definitely gave the Bucs an edge over their competition come playoff time when it mattered most, but that isn’t always the case.

Acquiring a cheap running back that is already familiar with the Bucs system while also providing depth at his position is a win for Bernard, Brady, and the rest of the Buccaneers.
