Tom Brady made the best decision for himself and the Buccaneers.
It is no surprise that in the first moments with Tom Brady open to questions from the media, the focal point of the conversation was the strange retirement that Buccaneers fans lived through a few months back.
Why the retirement happened in the first place and what it was trying to accomplish may remain a mystery, but Brady was able to shed some light on what caused him to come back.
Rick Stroud was able to cover the quote to ESPN, but one Tweet in specific stands out:
Brady explained that he felt like there was still a spot for him on the field. In Tampa? Absolutely.
Saying that there was still a place for Brady on the field for the Buccaneers in 2022 might be the biggest understatement of all time. The Bucs, who were quickly approaching a Terminator-like future with Blaine Gabbert and Kyle Trask at the helm, are a dramatically different team right now.
The Bucs with either other option at quarterback barely make the playoffs, even in the terrible NFC South. The same team with Tom Brady at the helm is a favorite to win the NFC.
The difference is dramatic. People may like Trask or Gabbert for whatever strange reasons they have that aren’t backed by any numbers or measurable, but Brady was the only actual option that makes this team competitive.
Brady saw a need, felt the itch to stay on the field, and the rest is history.
The fit was just too good for both parties to ignore. Tom Brady will get to keep building on his legacy and look for some revenge after getting snubbed in the MVP race last season, and the Buccaneers get to remain legitimately competitive in the playoff race for one more season.
We’ll take it.
