Tom Brady has made one of his most expected moves of the offseason in a restructure to free up a nice chunk of change for 2022.
Tom Brady was always going to do everything in his power to put the Buccaneers in the best position to win in 2022. Now, whether this coming at the expense of the team down the road was a part of the considerations by Brady will remain to be seen, but winning now is all that matters.
By making some changes to Brady’s deal, Tampa was able to free up a little less than $10 million, and we should all know what that means.
There is still one more priority signing for the Bucs to make this offseason; Tom Brady’s favorite target.
Rob Gronkowski remains a free agent, but presumably only for a short while longer. The Bucs and Gronk have every reason to make a deal happen before the draft starts next week, and this move by Brady is an obvious move towards that end.
The good news for the Bucs is that they don’t have that many more pressing needs to address in the coming weeks. It is likely that Tampa goes after a number of depth options, but even with Gronk and the draft picks in consideration, the Buccaneers should have plenty of money to go after their pick of several free agents.
This could open the door to Ndamukong Suh, an older veteran, or even several other signings to round out a group that already has the makings of a Super Bowl contender.
Regardless of how the Buccaneers use this money, it looks like Gronk is close to being a Buccaneer again. Tom Brady will get one of his best teammates back, and this offense takes one more step towards dominating the NFL in 2022.
