Complacency has no place in the modern NFL. The Buccaneers need to remember this as they evaluate their wide receiver room.

The Buccaneers lost in 2021 for a variety of reasons, but one can be attributed towards overall complacency in the construction of the roster.

A team that won a Super Bowl almost has no choice but to bring every free agent back, but that doesn’t mean that the roster is getting better or even making the necessary moves.

Teams always have to actively try to get better on both sides of the ball, and not doing this in the wide receiver room cost the Bucs in 2021.

Tampa has a lot of decent wide receivers on their roster. These guys aren’t bad in depth roles or as the fourth or fifth guy, but they can’t stand the reps and volume of a staring role when thrust into that position.

Injuries, suspensions, and other acts cause guys to miss time. This is a part of the NFL, and the Bucs thought they were prepared for this, but in reality, they weren’t.

Scotty Miller and Tyler Johnson weren’t ready for the bright lights. Succeeding in similar positions in the past led many to believe they could do it again, but that isn’t what happened.

These guys are streaky. This is normal for depth options, but fans and the team have to realize that all of the good can turn into bad quickly.

Great moments aren’t enough to keep these guys on the roster indefinitely. The Bucs still need to look for quality replacements and contributors for 2022.

It’s easy to fall in love with guys that have helped the roster so much and were a part of that Super Bowl team, but the Buccaneers can’t let this push them into a place of complacency at such an important position.
