Buccaneers make obvious move with important defensive starter

It’s not like anyone thought something else would happen with Devin White and the Buccaneers. One of the faces of Tampa’s defense is staying put.

Devin White is far from a perfect player for the Buccaneers, but he is the definition of a perfect prospect to use a fifth-year option on.

Despite some of the shortcomings in White’s game, the highlight tape is far too good to overlook The good still outweighs the bad, and Tampa had no business doing anything other than what they just made official.

Like all of us expected for the past few months, Greg Auman confirmed that White is coming back to Tampa via his fifth-year option.

There was genuinely no other option for the Bucs. Letting White walk would be insane. The upside for the athletic younger backer is just far too high to avoid paying a guy such a manageable salary.

White isn’t going to break the bank, keeps another important defensive piece on the roster, and gives the Buccaneers another year to see what a future deal will look like.

All in all, there wasn’t a better way to handle this after the ups and downs that we have seen over the past four years.

We all saw the ups. They were almost impossible to miss. It felt like White sacked the quarterback before the ball was snapped on some reps. The speed makes it seem like the Bucs can put a linebacker on a receiver if they needed to, even if some of the skills aren’t there yet.

There was some shakiness last year, but the dominance en route to the Super Bowl isn’t getting outdone by one down year where the whole defense struggled.

Devin White is staying put in Tampa, almost assuredly for a long time, and that is the only right decision by this front office.
