The Richard Sherman era didn’t go the way that most Buccaneers fans expected. However, his next career move is a perfect step in the right direction.

Anyone who watched Richard Sherman play with the Buccaneers in 2021 could probably tell you his time in the NFL is coming to a close.

None of this is to say that Sherman still can’t play at a replaceable level in the NFL, but it is clear that he has talents that go beyond actually playing the sport and putting his body in danger.

The constant injuries showed that the NFL might not be worth it for Sherman any longer. The good news is that there are plenty of other ways for one of the smartest players in NFL history to make excellent money while connected to the sport.

Ian Rapoport reported earlier today that Sherman is in talks with Amazon for the upcoming season, presumably to serve as a commentator with more high-level playing experience that most of the other people in the business combined.

Sherman has every one of the qualities to make him the next Tony Romo. In fact, Sherman may have the abilities to go far beyond this point, but Romo is the most recent comparison that has a way of showing just how smart he is with every play.

The future Hall of Fame corner obviously has the knowledge, and his abilities to communicate go beyond most people involved in the league. If he isn’t going to stay on the field or coach, there probably isn’t a better way for Richard Sherman to spend his time.

Tampa will certainly miss the veteran presence that Sherman brought last season, but both the Buccaneers and Sherman have very bright futures ahead in 2022.
