Tom Brady is back to work and gearing up for his third season with the Buccaneers. On that same thought, what is Rob Gronkowski doing?

If we are taking bets as to who the starting tight end will be for the Buccaneers this fall, the best money will always be on Rob Gronkowski in pewter and red and catching passes from Tom Brady.

Gronk was always the most likely name for this role from the time that Brady announced he was returning. It seemed like Brady leaving was going to give Gronk a perfect opportunity to ride off into the sunset if he wanted to, but this decision likely came off the table when the GOAT decided to give Tampa a bit more hope for the future.

Still, there are some that believe Gronk isn’t going to come back to give one last season with Brady. Plenty of actions by the Bucs and players show why this is a common topic on discussion boards and talk shows.

For starters, the Buccaneers drafting two tight ends that should make the roster for a team that doesn’t rely on tight ends shows that they aren’t going to wait for Gronk to make a decision to plan for the future.

However, the true reason why people believe that Gronkowki isn’t coming back stems from his obvious ambivalence towards playing.

Playing football when you aren’t sure that you want to be there is a recipe for getting hurt. There is a certain level of fanaticism that goes into playing the sport and being able to do it at a high level, and Gronk isn’t showing that right now.

On the other hand, Tom Brady is showing this level of commitment, and that only adds to people wondering why Gronk isn’t doing the same thing if he legitimately plans on returning.

Brady is back, helmet on, throwing the football, and he was retired for over a month. Gronk is posting workout videos, but is that the same thing as getting ready for the game?

Rob Gronkowski is still the most likely top tight end for the Buccaneers in 2022, but he isn’t making it easy for the supporters of this notion through his actions.
