James Bradberry would be a great fit with the Buccaneers as an established corner for the secondary, but this move is not something to bet on.

The Buccaneers need to spend the rest of their offseason looking for any more options on the trade or free agent market that will make the most of Tom Brady’s final season.

The window to win a Super Bowl is rapidly closing as this chapter begins to draw to a close, and Todd Bowles needs to be aggressive if he wants to compete for a Super Bowl during his first season as the head coach.

The draft was a great start. The free agents are in a great position to contribute. But there is still money to play around with, and this brings some people to recent free agent corner James Bradberry.

Bradberry has a quality track record as an outside corner that is going to make him a very popular name on the free agent market. Some team is likely going to pay well to immediately improve their secondary with a guy that can play with anyone, and that likely takes the Bucs out of the running.

Tampa has a little bit of cap space, but likely not enough to meet Bradberry on what he will get offered from teams with a bit more flexibility. There are tons of teams that could use a first or second corner and have the money to make the deal happen. The Bucs aren’t one such team.

The Buccaneers have three corners with starting potential, two of whom are moving into a contract year, and a recent draft pick with a mountain of athletic upside.

Signing Bradberry would help in the short-term, but it would upset the balance that is starting to form in this unit, and consistency at the position is the best bet for current and future success.

Jamel Dean is still criminally under-rated, and giving his steps to Bradberry is no way to properly determine if there is a future for him on the team as a well-paid option.

It might be fun to wonder out loud if a move would work, but this one probably only exists on the paper of hopeful fans.
