Almost every Buccaneers fan would love to see Scotty Miller back in a contributing role for the 2022 season. Byron Leftwich explained how this can happen.

The Buccaneers are more fun to watch when Scotty Miller is on the field. The unpredictability and the big-play threat that the speedy receiver brings has a way of making every play seem like it can be huge, and that is something that the offense missed in 2021.

Miller was injured for most of the past season, and his return did little to make people think that he was back to 100%. If Miller made it onto the field, he was rarely the focus of the play, and the opportunities for Miller to actually make it on the field were limited outside of special teams.

Now, Miller should stay on special teams as a guy that is always going to give his all to make a play, but we need him back on offense too to serve as a depth guy outside of the main three.

How can Miller return to his former status as a fringe top-three guy in the room?

Well, Byron Leftwich explains that he just needs to go back to being himself. This answer doesn’t seem like much, but the response does reveal that there is still some belief from this staff that Miller can be a part of this team going forward.

If “Scotty being Scotty” helps during a contract year, then Leftwich is showing that he believes that Miller has the potential within to be a contributor on this roster. Whether or not Miller reaches those prior levels again is up for debate, and it is also clear that injuries in 2021 weren’t the whole reason why Miller wasn’t on the field for his usual amount.

Scotty Miller is going to have to use this offseason to get healthy, but he is also going to have to work on his skills to bring more to the table as a blocker and as more than a vertical deep threat.

There is a path for Miller to make it back to making huge plays for Tom Brady and the Buccaneers, but it is clear that steps are needed to reach that point if he wants to be on the roster in 2022 and beyond.
