Ali Marpet may no longer be an active member of the Buccaneers but the talented guard is still finding ways to help the team out.

Buccaneers legends don’t get to where they are by taking the easy way out. The contribute. They stay. They win.

Ali Marpet did all of this and then some. There is a reason why he is going to go down as one of the best linemen in team history; it took a lot to be a great player on some of those Bucs teams. Choosing to stay for as long as he did and then retiring before the game took more from him was an easy way to go out as a legend.

Marpet calling it quits so young made it seem like the Bucs were in a position where they were reeling, but drafting Luke Goedeke in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft seems like a good way to keep the line on its feet.

In fact, there are a lot of similarities between Goedeke and Marpet in their skillsets, and Marpet is doing the right thing to help put Goedeke in the best position possible to protect Tom Brady.

Reaching out to a player that won’t even be your teammate to walk him through the offense and how to be the best player possible is not something that anyone has to do. That’s just the type of player Ali Marpet is.

Outside of remarkable play from the time he joined the team, Marpet was one of those guys who set the example on how to carry yourself in the league, and retirement isn’t going to stop him from doing that.

As much as we and Tom Brady are going to miss Marpet’s presence during one of the most important seasons in recent memory, stories like this are going to make us even more confident in Luke Goedke as a fit going forward.

Good players affect the team while they’re on it. Great players have an impact long after they are gone. We all know which player Ali Marpet is. Can Goedeke take up the mantle?
