Drew Brees appears to be teasing a return to football as the opposite of Rob Gronkowski. The Buccaneers should hope this is real.

I’ll be the first to say that the jokes about returning to football/retiring are getting old. Yes, it seems likely that Rob Gronkowski is going to be back with the Buccaneers this fall, but how many times can the guy tease an exit from the league before we start to see it as the likely end to this saga?

Guys love having fun at the expense of the media. And that is exactly what it seems like Gronk’s former division rival in Drew Brees is doing.

After reports surfaced that Brees was moving on from his current role in the booth, the future Hall of Fame quarterback posted a joke Tweet teasing a return to the NFL amongst other things.

Yeah, right. But the Bucs should still be crossing their fingers that there is an ounce of truth to this.

Bringing Brees back from retirement to lead this reinvigorated Saints roster would be the absolute worst move this coaching staff could make. Jameis Winston might be coming off an injury, but at least he can actually get the ball down the field. What would Brees look like as a passer after a full year out of the league and with that shoulder?

We all saw how Brees looked at the end of his career. That is not the type of player that would help the Saints remotely in the current stage of their franchise, but it would sure help the Buccaneers.

Bucs fans might not be that high on Winston, but they have to recognize that he is a far better option in that offense than Brees would be. The opportunity to actually get the ball out and with some zip does far too much to make a case for Jameis, even if there are some question marks.

While none of us actually expect this to happen, it sure would be nice to add another future Hall of Famer onto the list of quarterback are facing this upcoming year, just as long as that player is Drew Brees.

Trending. Tom Brady gets another major win over rival without having to play a game. light
