The bad with Devin White and the Buccaneers

As much as it might shock the homers here, there are flaws with every player in the NFL; even the Buccaneers.

White is not some Picasso where everything looks out of place, but there are some certain aspects of White’s game where he has to be better if he wants to take those next steps as a player.

As previously-mentioned, White is not good in coverage. Whether it is against a running back or a tight end, Devin White often found himself trailing his man, and that is a red flag during an era of the NFL where running backs get the ball as receivers more than ever.

This job does usually fall to Lavonte David when White is putting pressure on the quarterback, but David isn’t going to be here forever. White is going to have to improve in what is becoming the most important skill for off-ball linebackers in a pass-first league.

The other issue with White’s game can sometimes be his athleticism. Being so fast that you run yourself out of a play or past an offensive player is not a good thing, but it is an easy fix. Devin White would actually see his game improve in certain areas if he just makes a conscious decision to slow down and read the play from time to time.

Again, these aren’t major issues, but they are in a major part of the game, and White does have to be better in passing sets going forward.
