How is Pinion still on the Buccaneers?

Bradley Pinion

Bradley Pinion still being on the roster at this point is actually pretty impressive. If there was ever someone you could count out from making it onto the active roster at the start of the season, Pinion is probably the most sure thing you’ll see.

The Bucs did not spend an early Day Three pick on a punter that is going to spend the year on the practice squad. The newest punter in Tampa is obviously going to be the starter, so why is Pinion still on the roster?

It doesn’t really matter how Jake Camarda players during camp-he is already the guy going forward. He is cheaper than Pinion, and the team has to assume that having one of the worst punters in the NFL for two years in a row is statistically unlikely at least.

While Pinion has been decent for most of his time in Tampa, the position is just too easy to replace and not important enough to hold onto a veteran that is trending downward.

It might not be fair, but there is an obvious new starting punter for the Buccaneers, and even Bradley Pinion knows that it isn’t him. Keeping him through camp will only complicate the dynamic and keep other guys from getting the chance to make the roster.
