The Buccaneers look like they have a new #2 running back

Ke’Shawn Vaughn

Just when it looked like Ke’Shawn Vaughn was going to finally get his chance to step into the main rotation with Leonard Fournette and Giovani Bernard, the Bucs went out and drafted Rachaad White.

White looks every bit the athlete mentally and physically to move into the second role as soon as this season, and that should impact Vaughn the most.

While Vaughn shouldn’t be in danger of losing his roster spot, he is immediately in danger of losing touches if White comes out and plays the way that some expect him to. Between being an excellent athlete and looking the part as a third-down back, White brings a lot to the table that Vaughn doesn’t.

There is still a side of Ke’shawn Vaughn that we would like to see as a runner before we fully rule on him failing to meet expectations, but it does seem like that pick is not aging well at this moment.

Vaughn is going to need to have an excellent performance during the offseason to lock his role down, and even that might not be enough if the rest of the guys in the unit show up and play their roles well. The young back might still have a little bit of time to prove himself, but the clock is ticking.
