Young defensive players for the Buccaneers
While the offensive list was relatively short, the young defenders on this roster have a much brighter future ahead.
Thank goodness the Bucs didn’t draft Lewis Cine. Mike Edwards has been getting better every season and looks like he could be one of the best ball-hawking safeties in the NFL.
Why would anyone want to replace him and his reps with a rookie? That was just a silly few weeks for the Buccaneers.
While JTS gets most of the attention as the young guy at the position, Nelson has been making impressive strides over the last few years.
It would not surprise us at all if he moves into the third role because the Buccaneers want him to, not because they couldn’t find anyone else.
There are still some parts of his game to polish, but Anthony Nelson looks like he could provide some quality backup minutes if his chances increase.
The secondary wasn’t always fun to watch last season, but Dee Delaney stepping up and earning a role was one of the best parts of the season defensively. Delaney wasn’t always perfect, but he did far better than anyone expected, and getting a full year under his belt in the defense should make his 2022 season much better.
A lot of people might be excited by Zyon McCollum, but don’t expect him to jump Delaney on the depth chart just yet.
