Contract #2 for the Buccaneers

Tom Brady, $11,896,000 hit in 2022 (5.78% of total space)

There isn’t a more important position in sports than quarterback. Above all the other changes the Buccaneers have made over the past few years to become a contender, none of it mattered as much as bringing in Brady as a free agent.

Brady has always been known for being willing to play on a team-friendly deal, as evidenced by his many years in New England, but we also saw the same thing in Tampa.

Even with void years, extensions, etc., Brady is still playing for far below where his value should be as an MVP-caliber quarterback.

Speaking of void years, it is important to recognize that this deal is about to get very bad for Tampa when he retires at the end of the season (assuming that still happens). However, that is a problem for the next iteration of the Bucs and whoever follows Brady. Their life just won’t be as easy. It’s worth it.

Regardless, Brady’s help for the Bucs is impossible to underscore based on what we have seen over the past few years, and Tampa getting such a good quarterback for a low price in 2022 is how they will stay relevant for another year.
