Travis Jonsen has been a fun story to follow on the Buccaneers over the past few years as a practice squad guy with some upside, but that likely ends now.

Anyone that has been following the Buccaneers over the past few years knows the name Travis Jonsen.

His name usually pops up in regards to practice squad movement, but he is mentioned in many “preseason 53-man roster predictions” as one of the wide receivers that the coaching staff likes but barely misses the cut.

Jonsen probably wasn’t going to crack the roster this year with a number of other talented wide receiver options in the mix, and that chance just became even less likely now with news breaking that Jonsen was arrested for a DUI earlier this morning.

Even if Jonsen isn’t one of the big-name players for the Bucs, this still likely ends up in the loss of another camp body that would be able to provide decent reps and already knows the offense well after his time on the team.

The Bucs could decide to look the other way on this mistake as they have done with other players in the past, namely Antonio Brown during his time with the team, but let’s not pretend that talent and potential don’t play a role.

It would be one thing if Jonsen was a star. The treatment is a little bit different for a fringe roster guy.

Guys in Jonsen’s position are always walking a fine line. One bad stretch of practices or one mistake off the field has a way of ending careers far quicker than it does with guys that are actually making the big moves in the league.

While nothing is set in stone yet, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the Bucs looking at another depth receiver sooner rather than later.
