Todd Bowles may not name names just yet as to who is going to get the axe from the Buccaneers, but naming an obvious position reveals plenty.

Everyone knows that there are certain position limits that teams won’t surpass on their rosters. The Buccaneers aren’t going to carry ten wide receivers. No team needs seven tight ends.

These conventions are normal, and while everyone knows that cuts are coming, Todd Bowles has singled one position out as an obvious candidate to start trimming the fat.

Not that it should surprise anyone, but the Bucs aren’t going to need three punters in training camp.

Tampa currently has three punters; Bradley Pinion, Sterling Hofrichter, and Jake Camarda.

The team only needs one for training camp and the future, and that player is obviously Camarda.

The Buccaneers would be absolute fools to draft Camarda in the fourth round and then not give him the job. It would almost be hilarious how bad he would have to play during camp to actually lose his job, and even then it would be a stretch.

The Bucs invested a pick in Camarda; something that already should happen very rarely for special teams players, his price tag is cheaper than Pinion’s, and Pinion was one of the worst punters in the NFL last season.

Jake Camarda is the day one starter for the Bucs at punter today, and nothing short of a miracle is going to change that.

With this knowledge in mind, the Bucs need to start in the punter room by at least cutting Pinion. There is even a case out there that both other punters should get cut to make room for other players with an actual chance of making the roster, but making the first cut sooner rather than later makes the most sense regardless.

Todd Bowles obviously knows what’s coming. The players should know too. Now, we’re just waiting for the axe to finally fall.
