Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2022 position group grades
Remaining positions for the Buccaneers
Linebackers
Shaq Barrett and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka give Tampa Bay a formidable pass rushing force off the edges, as both players bring speed and explosiveness. Shaq Barrett has been one of the most disruptive sack artists in recent memory, and JTS shows flashes, but just needs to continue working on technique and adding some new moves to his arsenal.
Devin White had 128 tackles last year, using his speed and closing burst to get to ball carriers consistently, with 8 of those tackles coming in the backfield. Lavonte David is an all-time great Buccaneer, he struggled with ankle and foot issues last year, but even at this stage in his career is still a game changing linebacker.
Overall grade-8.5
Secondary-
This secondary is one that screams talent and potential. Carlton Davis has developed into one of the better corners in the league and Jamel Dean continues to prove that he has the speed and technique to lock down some of the better receivers in the league.
The depth behind our two starters is young and still being developed as Sean Murphy-Bunting proved that he can be very good last year, but had some consistency issues, and rookie Zyon McCollum will look to earn his place this year.
As great as our corners are, we need the results to match. We have a better cornerback group talent-wise than one that allowed the most completed passes in the NFL and over 4k passing yards last year.
Antoine Winfield Jr. and Mike Edwards are two incredible prospects at safety and should elevate their game in a “prove it” year in 2022 with veterans Logan Ryan and Keanu Neal also in the rotation.
Overall grade-8
Special teams-
Tampa Bay has struggled for the last few years on Special Teams. Tampa ranked in the bottom 10 in the league for FG % made, FG made, kickoff average return yards allowed, their own kickoff return yards, and net average punt yards.
The special teams were abysmal, so they had to invest in the squad this off season. That investment came in the form of drafting a punter in the 4th round, Jake Camarda, to likely unseat Bradley Pinion. Questionable draft spot aside, that change really needed to happen, but it does not appear much else really happened. This looks like another year of bottom 10 special teams performances by Tampa.
Overall grade- 4
Tampa has an extremely talented group, one that reportedly even received the highest overall team grade in Madden. Let’s hope that leadsto on the field success in 2022!
