Of all the records for Tom Brady to set during his brief stint with the Buccaneers, the franchise passing touchdowns leader could be one of the most impressive.
Outside of the obvious, like being the first Buccaneers quarterback to win two Super Bowls or the first Bucs player to win an MVP, there are several individual records that Tom Brady can set during his possible last season in Tampa. The most impressive of these awards could easily be the all-time passing touchdowns leader for the franchise.
That record currently belongs to Jameis Winston; one of the longest tenured starting quarterbacks in the history of the team.
As it stands, the franchise record is currently 121 passing touchdowns. This number came off five seasons for Winston starting at quarterback for the Buccaneers.
On the other end, Tom Brady currently sits at 83 touchdowns after just two seasons-only 38 off of Winston’s franchise-leading number.
After looking at Tom Brady’s past two seasons and seeing that he hasn’t had fewer than 40 touchdowns in a season with the Bucs, it is more than fair to say this record is within reach of the GOAT.
What’s more impressive about this record is what Brady did for his team while he achieved it. A Super Bowl win and an exciting playoff run show that these touchdowns didn’t come by chucking the ball up while playing from behind. The vast majority of these touchdowns are the reason why this team is so great right now.
To add even more to this legend of this record is how few interceptions Brady has thrown en route to these stats. Winston threw 1.38 touchdowns for every interceptions. Brady has thrown 3.46 touchdowns per interception.
Frankly, this difference is staggering, and it does make what Brady is doing seem all the more impressive when you compare it to the guy who leads the franchise in most passing categories.
Let’s hope we see that record break this year.
